Part of the Solution

We saw the movie “Number 23″ last night. The one starring Jim Carey. I have a love-hate relationship with Jim Carey (too bad he has no clue about this, eh). I absolutely abhor his “funny” shit, because they are exactly that: shit. I think his comedies are ridiculous and they are too over the top for me. I know many people will argue with me, and have in the past, but there ya go. Then again, when he does his drama roles, I think he’s brilliant. He’s quite an actor, that guy. Totally believable. The Truman Show, Bruce Almighty was a comedy but it was a bit dramatic and he wasn’t too horrible in it, and now Number 23. Number 23 is crazy! Wow. Both Dave and I were locked at the edge of our seats last night while watching it. What a great movie. Really freaky, but great. I recommend it.

Yesterday was a pretty big day. A couple of bathroom reno guys came over to look at our bathrooms and give us quotes on how much it would cost us to upgrade both (they are in dire need of upgrades, let me tell you). They’re going to give us a call back and let us know later on this week. Then we went to Home Depot to look at vanities, sinks, toilets, and tubs. Window shopping for now, but I really wanted a pedestal sink. Turns out we can’t have one because of the odd plumbing in the main bathroom. :(

We found an awesome all-organic all-natural supermarket a few blocks from our house. It’s been there for three years, and we never knew about it. Wtf, right? Anyway, there is an organic, natural alternative to every single household item we use, and every type of food we eat, from dishwashing liquid to bar soaps to lotions to peanuts to rice to milk to fake meats to produce. Everything. Everything was there. And it wasn’t all that expensive, either. Dave and I kept telling each other, “Now we have NO excuse to eat right, and be good to ourselves and our environment.”

For the past 4 years or so, I’ve made a valiant effort in turning us organic and biodegradable. Turning green, you could say. We’ve stopped using regular detergents and soaps. I’ve ordered all organic, all natural products for everyday household items. However, I’ve always had to travel really far, or order them online because the convenience wasn’t there. I’d order everything in bulk, too, so that shipping and handling would be worth it. And as time went on, it appears to me that markets, shops, and stores are being more conscious about this. They offer a lot of new, safer alternatives to everyday items. I’ve found awesome hair products for my hair (shampoo and conditioner) and all of my lotions are organic and all-natural, biodegradable. Everything comes recycled now, so about half of all our trash gets recycled. It’s great!

Maybe it’s just our little hippie-style town, or maybe it’s becoming global. Whatever it is, though, I’m glad we’ve finally 100% become green with our sustenance and consumption. It’s great knowing we’re part of the solution.

You might be interested in a site that Consumer Reports runs about green products: http://www.greenerchoices.org

They had an article recently about how green products aren’t necessarily as good as they seem (or, sometimes, as they claim). They pointed out that the Seventh Generation dishwashing gel wasn’t, despite its claim, completely biodegradable. So the Greener Chocies website can be a nice resource for checking those claims – I like Consumer Reports because they are a non-profit, non-commercial, independent research organization.

Yeah I’ve heard of that, and I also read that in the U.S., the term “organic” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s completely organic. I generally read the ingredients before I buy any products anyway. In Canada, biodegradable and organic products are more well organized and actually are what they claim to be because it’s more regulated. :D The Choices market we found near our place are all Canadian regulated.

It’s so hard to go green. I think it will probably take us awhile to go 100% green but we are trying. I am still learning.

Off topic, my friend Chantel from econuka.com reminded me so much of you because she had the same ideas as you. I think you guys would have enjoyed each others company.

Anyway, I watched number 23 the other night. It was really freaky. Cinematography was great too. WOW.

Yeah it took us a long time to go green completely with our consumption. Well, I should probably say 98%. There are still little things here and there, probably, that needs to be green still. Don’t worry, Krisa… :) You’ll get there. Little by little. Every change is great!

Number 23 had REALLY good cinematography, I agree! It’s crazy. O.o I was very impressed.
