Well I was a productive housewife today.
Cleaned the living room, the kitchen, and vacuumed the whole house. The living room looks reaallly good. We use our poor dining table as a laptop table, so we pulled both of our computer chairs out here and leaned the real dining tables against the wall. LOL What nerds. Unfortunately, because we did that, the room always looks a bit “off” because of these big, giant computer lounge chairs in the middle of the dining room. So I have to clean it out and make sure it looks “tidy” even though it looks off.
Dave put together our dinky little file cabinet we got from Walmart as a Christmas present. Yeah, that was more than 9 months ago, but we’re slow-going sometimes. Unfortunately, the second file cabinet we put together didn’t go so well. It came with a broken sliding thingie, so now the bottom drawer doesn’t open quite as smoothly, and files can’t be hung on it. It looks really sturdy and beautiful, but it’s not very functional. That’s what we get for shopping at Walmart. First time in about freakin’ 8 years, and the first thing we bought from there turns out to be a piece of shit. Dave said it promptly enough: “It’s like a bimbo. It’s only good to look at, but it doesn’t do much else.” Hahah.
So now I’m stalling actually doing some real work paperwork. I should get all these things done before Tuesday, when I go back to work, because I know there are new case files waiting for me and I have to close the old ones first before I start the new ones, otherwise I will never catch up. Yikes!!

Among bathroom renos, we’ve also been looking to get a new ceiling light for our living room, especially one that would be a little more energy-sufficient. We’ve got most of the house on those cool energy-sufficient light bulbs, whatever the heck they’re called, but our living room one isn’t yet. I don’t think the bulb fits, so I want to be able to change the entire thing and put in a new one. Our dining room is so darn dark, even with these stupid lights on, that it’s really ridiculous. I like living in light.
Those energy-saving lights are really neat too because once we started using them, our plants have been more vibrant. They really love these lights. They’re like sun substitutes or something. Our plants grow in a way that reaches towards these lights, like how sunflowers bend towards the sun. It’s really neat, actually.

We saw the movie “Number 23″ last night. The one starring Jim Carey. I have a love-hate relationship with Jim Carey (too bad he has no clue about this, eh). I absolutely abhor his “funny” shit, because they are exactly that: shit. I think his comedies are ridiculous and they are too over the top for me. I know many people will argue with me, and have in the past, but there ya go. Then again, when he does his drama roles, I think he’s brilliant. He’s quite an actor, that guy. Totally believable. The Truman Show, Bruce Almighty was a comedy but it was a bit dramatic and he wasn’t too horrible in it, and now Number 23. Number 23 is crazy! Wow. Both Dave and I were locked at the edge of our seats last night while watching it. What a great movie. Really freaky, but great. I recommend it.
Yesterday was a pretty big day. A couple of bathroom reno guys came over to look at our bathrooms and give us quotes on how much it would cost us to upgrade both (they are in dire need of upgrades, let me tell you). They’re going to give us a call back and let us know later on this week. Then we went to Home Depot to look at vanities, sinks, toilets, and tubs. Window shopping for now, but I really wanted a pedestal sink. Turns out we can’t have one because of the odd plumbing in the main bathroom.
We found an awesome all-organic all-natural supermarket a few blocks from our house. It’s been there for three years, and we never knew about it. Wtf, right? Anyway, there is an organic, natural alternative to every single household item we use, and every type of food we eat, from dishwashing liquid to bar soaps to lotions to peanuts to rice to milk to fake meats to produce. Everything. Everything was there. And it wasn’t all that expensive, either. Dave and I kept telling each other, “Now we have NO excuse to eat right, and be good to ourselves and our environment.”
For the past 4 years or so, I’ve made a valiant effort in turning us organic and biodegradable. Turning green, you could say. We’ve stopped using regular detergents and soaps. I’ve ordered all organic, all natural products for everyday household items. However, I’ve always had to travel really far, or order them online because the convenience wasn’t there. I’d order everything in bulk, too, so that shipping and handling would be worth it. And as time went on, it appears to me that markets, shops, and stores are being more conscious about this. They offer a lot of new, safer alternatives to everyday items. I’ve found awesome hair products for my hair (shampoo and conditioner) and all of my lotions are organic and all-natural, biodegradable. Everything comes recycled now, so about half of all our trash gets recycled. It’s great!
Maybe it’s just our little hippie-style town, or maybe it’s becoming global. Whatever it is, though, I’m glad we’ve finally 100% become green with our sustenance and consumption. It’s great knowing we’re part of the solution.
