Isn’t it weird to be an adult? What is the deal with this, anyway? Since when did I suddenly become involved in home renovations, getting every insurance under the sun, paying bills regularly, going to work everyday, having responsibilities, worrying about stuff like term life insurance and whatnot. I mean, what the heck are all those things anyway? Responsibility and accountability get tiring sometimes, but I think adulthood has its good stuff, especially considering what we came out of in childhood. Freedom to relax whenever. Freedom to do chores whenever we want. Freedom to spend our money. Freedom to go out whenever we want. Freedom to follow through with our own consequences. Freedom to make decisions. With freedom comes responsibility and sometimes kids don’t understand that, especially when they ask for that from their parents.
I often think that the world would be much more productive if kids knew what adults knew. Jenbug wisely added, “… and cared.” It’s not just knowing, it is the wisdom of the knowledge and the capacity for caring that makes productivity. They may know, but they just don’t care yet. If I knew then what I know now, boy oh boy would I have made some pretty different choices. Then again, I think I’m doing pretty darn good where I am anyway. ![]()
