Back From Our Honeymoon

Yo. Okay, so we’re back from our one-week honeymoon in the Mayan Riviera in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. It’s about an hour and a half south of Cancun. We landed yesterday and got home at around 1am. Tired, hungry, sleepy, dirty — first thing we did was check emails, posts, blogs, comments, facebook, myspace, and surfed the internet all around. Didn’t end up going to sleep until around 2:30am. We are such nerds. :)

If you are on my facebook, you can see all the photos I posted. In three batches, a total of 180 photos that I chose to post. Whenever I get around to it, I’ll post them to flickr too, so the rest of you can see them. Right now, I’m just very lazy.

A lot of updates to do. A lot have been happening lately. I leave most news to friends who want to take the time to talk with me and have dinner/lunch, or just a nice chat. There’s too much to tell, too much to divulge on such a public site. However, here are some highlighted points of our honeymoon.

  • I was nauseous from the pregnancy for all parts of the day during the whole week.
  • I even at several points on Thursday last week blacked out for a few seconds. My eyes completely spotted and I couldn’t see anything but black. Very scary.
  • I did a lot of dry heaving and half-vomiting, though there was no actual vomiting.
  • I ate meat during the whole week, which included beef strips, ham, and bacon. It was because apparently our resort had no idea how to provide protein in non-meat products. Dave remained vegetarian.
  • I am back as a vegetarian now.
  • Food overall tastes completely bad to me, no matter what it is, where it came from, how it looks, how it tastes, or even whether or not I historically liked it. This first trimester is kicking my bum. I eat because I have to, and definitely not because I want to.
  • Most of the vacation was spent obsessing over what I’m going to eat and how I’m going to manage to keep it down without nausea and dizziness for the rest of the day.
  • A few days, I couldn’t do anything but sit perfectly still and read. Any slight movement would’ve met more blacking out, dizziness, wooziness, headache, etc.
  • Dave got a sun burn, which turned into a tan. Hehe.
  • Our hotel room was so freezing cold, it was ridiculous. The outside weather was about 85 to 90 degrees everyday. Most days it rained, but it wasn’t a big problem because it was so warm. We bundled up when we went to sleep because we hated our room. Complained about it four times and nothing was done. Grr.
  • We saw THE Chichen Itza pyramid, one of the world’s current seven wonders of the world.
  • We also visited Tulum, another ancient ruin site, set by the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the sites where the Spaniards invaded those many years ago.
  • We also went to Xel-Ha, a water park in Mexico, where we swam with dolphins.
  • We visited an ancient Mayan cenote, which is an underground cave with fresh water to swim in. It was so freakin’ gorgeous.
  • We visited several small pocket communities of the Mayan people, and got to see a bit how they live, what their homes look like, etc.
  • Bargaining is AMAZING in Mexico. They expect you to bargain with them when you want to buy souvenirs. Otherwise, you’d end up spending 20 times more than you really should. It became second nature to me whenever I wanted to buy.
  • We swam in the crisp, clear, beautiful ocean at our resort, where we were alongside giant angel fish right next to us. All natural.
  • The Mexican people, and specifically the Mayan people, are extremely accommodating, hospitable, and so very friendly. They are a humble people. Wow.
  • We met some very lovely international patriots from all over the world. It was really cool hearing all these different languages and accents.
  • I realize that I have some really bad food issues. Serious food issues. It is actually disgusting and ashaming, and this pregnancy just makes the worst come out of me when it comes to these food issues. It took me being in a completely new place out of my element to realize just how backwards my food issues are. It was a very hard food week for me.
  • We are SO GLAD to be home. Oh so glad.
  • We had absolutely NO internet access or wireless. Well, scratch that. There were two computers in the front lobby, but they cost $5 per every half hour to use. So we said screw it. We never felt out of place in so long. Heh. No internet?!
  • We missed Tink something fierce. Man.
  • TV in Mexico is filled with just as much advertisement and nonsense commercials as in the regular western world. Except everything’s in Spanish.
  • Everything went smoothly. We thoroughly enjoyed Mexico, but given our home-body natures and my first trimester during pregnancy, we could’ve done the whole week in about 3 days and would’ve been happy. Heh. However, we got some goodies for a few of my friends and the kids in our family.
