When I was younger, I took a few lessons of piano. Boy did I really, really enjoy them. I was only able to take a few because my family ran out of money when we had to move away, so I wasn’t able to pick up on anything and I hardly remember what I learned today. However, I do remember that I picked up the Piano lessons & piano chords very quickly, and my teacher was very happy with me. After that, I always thought I’d go back to these lessons one day, but I never got around to it. Life got in the way, I suppose.
So now, every time I hear anything about playing the piano, I get just a little envious. I like to keep up with Play Piano’s free email newsletter, and maybe one day I will actually be able to afford to take piano lessons. Even if just for a little while.

We’ve been daydreaming a lot about our first home. Not sure when we can surely make that happen, but at this rate, prospects are bright and it looks pretty feasible. We both make pretty good money right now and it looks like in the near future I think I will be in for a higher-paying job. Not sure when, but eventually, I’m hoping. That would put us in a really good place with Baby Bean and getting a home for ourselves. We’ll have to think about mortgage loans and how much we can afford and how much equity we have and all that stuff. I think I’m actually talking out of my bum right now, but at least we have two real estate agents in the family and both of them will be very helpful when it’s time to buy! It will be so awesome to buy our first home together. Ah, a garden, and a back yard, and a new kitchen, and some pretty tiles. Yum!

A lot of my friends are into servers and getting their own SSH or Telnet servers running, either for their own personal usage, or for a business they are looking to start. Over the years, I’ve heard through their experiences how hard it is to get a secure product when looking to buy servers. It’s hard to find a dependable company willing to offer all the things you want for an affordable price. While I don’t know much about owning a Secure Server or how to run one, I can definitely appreciate the work and effort that goes into securing one for business or pleasure. Pragma Systems finally offers exactly all of these things! I can’t wait to tell my techno buff friends!

As Dave and I get closer to buying our first home (we’re thinking within the next couple of years, hopefully?), we’ve been talking a lot about where we want to live. There are several options, and we’re pretty excited about them all. We want to somehow stay near the beach (perhaps peruse some folly beach homes for sale – our dream home would be RIGHT on the beach, of course, but whose isn’t?!), but definitely near family. We’ve talked also about making our home as “green” as possible, with self-heated floors and walls so we don’t waste electricity, and solar energy to light our home, and everything re-manufactured and recycled. We’ve seen it done, so we’re hoping that one day we’d be able to own our very own earthship. I don’t think we’d be able to do it with our next home, but maybe the one after that when we’ve saved enough money to actually build our own home by the beach and have it free of energy costs (both financially and environmentally). It would be so cool. It’s an exciting time, when we start talking about buying a home and stuff.

With all these new projects I have in mind, I think I’ll be investing in some advertising pens for one of my businesses. It will be a good way to advertise my website where all my artwork will be sold. That is, if I ever get off my arse and start working.
Lots of planning to do, folks. In the meantime, I will go and have some noodles with fake crab and have a lie down. We have to wake up at 3am to catch our early, early flight tomorrow to NC. Oi. I hope you all have an awesome weekend! Tomorrow I will officially be going into my second trimester with Baby Bean!

Well, maybe today I will do a bit more cleaning. The house is in general good shape (I cleaned right before Christmas, to avoid the mess that I would have to clean up again afterwards). We may even pack away the Christmas tree tonight, depending on how ambitious we are, and how much I can convince Dave to help me pack it away. I won’t have much time to do it after the new year since we’ll be spending it at my parents’ house this year. Hopefully in the new year we would get some things done, like the bathroom in the en suite (goddamn it, husband, can you just FINISH IT ALREADY?! O.o), and start on the baby’s room (and finish it by June-ish so the paint fumes don’t linger when they baby arrives), and maybe even fix our plumbing fixtures in the main bathroom once and for all. It’s not too bad, and it doesn’t leak, but we can’t use the plug properly.
Lots of things for the new year. Is it just me, or do you also start planning a to-do list RIGHT after Christmas? Kinda annoying.
I can’t relax unless the house is clean. Am I weird, or am I just nesting? Maybe both? Haha.

Now that our bathroom renos are done (with the exception of a paint job by Mr. Procrastinator for the en suite), I am anxious to move to the kitchen. We have a little bar area that’s currently set up, made in the 1970s (you can totally tell by the style of the yellow counters
). Except, somehow, we lost all of our bar stools. I think Sylv took them. I don’t mind, since we never did use them, but the bar area looks kind of funny without any bar stools. It’s just like a really high table where you have to stand at. I think Dave said this year, we will be able to get some new counters and cabinets, and a new floor to replace this ugly yellow laminate from the 70s. It’d be nice to get all that done before Baby Bean’s debut, but I’m not sure if that is possible. Eh well. I guess it’s functional right now.

I know a lot of my friends are hooked on online casino, and this particular one (pro360.com) is one of the best, I hear. The site is incredibly easy to use, and there are so many different types of games available to play. My favorite has always been Blackjack, of course, but I also want to learn how to play Poker. There are so many different types of casinos to play from, too, based on the location you want to go. For example, there is the Bingo Day UK, and then there is also the Las Vegas Casino. Either one, among the many many others, are all good to play in. I would much rather play on an online casino than have to go out. I remember George and Marian having to make a 7-hour trip to Laughlin, Nevada every time they want to gamble and play in the casinos. I think they would have a lovely “trip” just getting online and playing at pro360.com. In the comforts of their own home. How convenient!

For my parents who are completely internet-ignorant, they need something like DialAFlight. It’s a phone number they call in to book flights. The UK-based agency allows tailor-made flights, hotels, and attractions for those who call in to talk to a representative. I love this idea, because right now, every time my parents want to go somewhere, they ask me to “look it up on the internet, Helen!” It’s really annoying trying to book someone else’s flight. The excuse they give me is that they don’t like using the internet and they don’t know what they’re doing (which is both true, but annoying nonetheless). My dad is more efficient on the phone. Some people just like hearing a live voice when making big decisions like this, and one of those people is my dad. For example, flights to USA would be so much simpler for my dad to book for me if he could just call in. He’d know exactly all the details for me, when he can pick me up, where I should land, etc. It only makes sense that he make those arrangements rather than me. If I were to go anywhere in the US right now, I’d want to go to Colorado because I want to see the ancient Anazasi caves that are there. It’s one of my dreams someday, to go there and see for myself the ways of the ancient Native American people. So beautiful!

I’ve thought about making a portion of my site into a shop — for my jewelry, photography, and drawings. Because I don’t know a whole lot about the shopping cart ordeal and how to set it all up, I need a ecommerce software that is really simple and easy to use. With Ashop, an awesome shopping cart software, I noticed that their site advertises simplicity as well as functionality. I can see how it would be useful to set it up into different types of categories — jewelry, photos, drawings, greeting cards, etc. Plus, it could go directly to my paypal. I think I will make this a project for 2008. I’ve always wanted to organize my work to sell, but never really got the motivation to do so. Hopefully with a shopping cart software that is easy to use and doesn’t take forever to set up, I can finally get started!
