Last year, Dave and I did our Vietnamese wedding at the end of 2008 in North Carolina at my parents’ house. We spent New Year’s Eve night with my sister, her boyfriend, and my three cousins. We rang in the new year that way. I was just ending my 1st trimester of the pregnancy with Lily Bean. I can’t believe it’s been a whole year!!

What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
- was so pregnant I gained a whopping 38 pounds
- delivered a baby!! WOW!!
- become a mother
- cloth diapering
- breast feeding

Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Sort of. My New Year’s resolution last year was to have a healthy baby, and that’s what happened. I don’t have any new year’s resolutions for this year, though… just lots of hopes.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
I did! And my sister-in-law did, as well, so Lily Bean has a cousin Peanut who is 3 months and 1 day younger than she is!

Did anyone you know die?
No, thank goodness. Everyone I know is healthy.

No weddings this past year, though what I wouldn’t have given to attend Ronniboo’s!

I legally moved to Canada on November 4, 2008. Election day!

Giving birth to the most amazing, beautiful little girl ever.

Having to go back to work after only 3 months of maternity leave. That totally sucks. Not my fault, but still.

I just had a nasty cold around late November.

What was the best thing you bought?
Erm.. cloth diapers for the Lily Bean. It gives me a huge sense of accomplishment and pride that we pulled it off.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lily’s. Every single little thing she does, every single little milestone is a HUGE celebration. It’s awesome.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
An ex-friend of mine who IS doing something incredibly stupid and appalling, but it can’t be helped. I’m not depressed over it, though. I’m just appalled and kind of annoyed.

Where did most of your money go?
Gas. And preparing for Lily’s arrival before July — her nursery furniture, cloth diapers, clothes, toys, books, etc.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Lily’s birth, and her first Christmas.

What song will always remind you of 2008?
“Baby Mine” by Allison Krauss. I played that over and over again while I was pregnant, and it’s now one of Lily’s lullabies that she falls asleep to.

Worrying; it was all for naught. Things usually work out, and when they don’t, we move on.

I spent Christmas with Dave and Lily Bean and my sister and Tink and my MIL and Granny.

Yes. I fell in love with this 6 lb 10 oz baby who made her debut on July 12, 2008.

No. Hate is an emotion not worth having.

I forgot what it was called, but it was something like Baby Chronicles or something. I read it while I was pregnant and it was hilarious. Very good book. Made me a little more relaxed about my anxieties regarding the pregnancy and stuff.

Allison Krauss.

What did you want and get?
A healthy, beautiful baby girl.

A new job.

The Dark Knight (I have to agree with Ronni on this one!).

I turned 28, and it was a relaxing birthday spent with my husband and my baby. Exactly what I asked for. Dave made me breakfast and orange julius. Yum.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Another job in Canada, perhaps?

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Pregnancy clothes.

Did you make any significant changes to your appearance?
Right before Christmas, I chopped off my waist-length long hair and had it cut to a little past my shoulders, layered, with long BANGS, and side parted. Quite the change.

Dave and Lily Bean.

Same job I started out last year with: a family therapist working for a non-profit agency.

My sister is coming into Seattle tonight, but I won’t be able to pick her up because of the road conditions, so she’s going to be taking a flight into Vancouver tomorrow morning, and we’ll go and pick her up in Vancouver together. I’m so excited for her to meet Lily Bean. I wish she lived closer, but we do what we can to stick together.

I managed to make a new header image for the site. Ya like? I figure the summer girl-on-swing layout was getting a little old. I managed to whip this one up in a couple of hours during one of Lily’s nap times. There’s only a bit of time frame during her naps because she doesn’t nap for as long anymore. I missed being able to draw, so I thought I’d try my hand on another illustration for a layout, and voila!

Dave calls me “Pixie,” or “Pix” for short. He is the ONLY person who is allowed to call me this.

I usually just blow dry it and let it hang. Now, though, I tend to have it in a pony tail or bun, since Lily Bean has figured out she can grab my hair very easily. My hair is currently very long (mid-back) with long layers. Time for a hair cut!

Any of the ones that have religious connotations in them. They sort of annoy me. I know “Christ”mas is really a religious holiday, but we don’t celebrate it as such.

I’m generally an introvert but can hold my own pretty well in large groups.

This past week has been pretty crazy. I’ve been working more hours so that we can make more ends meet and not have to struggle so much. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to see the fruits of this labor until after the holiday season (payday isn’t until the end of December), but hey, I’m still looking forward to being able to pay all of our bills on time for next month!

This week, several things happened. Lily Bean turned 5 months old yesterday, we went to dinner with Leaf and Louise (my old supervisor and his wife) on Tuesday night, and yesterday something important happened which I won’t divulge just yet. None of these things are related to each other, though. Heh. I’m glad the week is over, as there have been crisis after crisis at work, and it was just very busy in general. I feel like I’ve neglected our home, but I’m very fortunate to have a stay-at-home hubby who is also willing to do some housework and keep the house generally in good shape while I’m at work. Woo!

Yesterday, it started snowing furiously in Surrey. And by evening, it had all stopped and was washed away by some hard rain. Today, there is hardly any evidence that there was snow at all. Bummer. I kinda want it to snow. It’s so pretty and it gets me in the holiday spirit. I just wish I didn’t also have to be on the road when it happens. Next time it snows (and actually sticks), we’re going to suit Lily Bean up in her snow suit and go out and take pictures. Dave suggested making a snowman in our front yard in her size, and then taking pictures of her beside it to indicate that she is a giant baby next to a regular-sized snowman. I’m game!

I’m waiting for the Lily girl to wake up so I can start my morning routine with her, but in the meantime, I’m doing some things that I’ve been neglecting, such as various house chores and some blogging and paperwork. It’s hard to do any of these things at home when the baby demands so much attention.

1. Snow is really awesome, when I’m at home, with nowhere to go, and everyone I know and love are also safe and home with nowhere to go.

2. I’m looking forward to the Christmas holiday this year. My sister is visiting and we’re gonna have oh so much fun together with Lily Bean.

3. Hot chocolate with Bailey’s Irish cream is the best drink for the Christmas season ever! Too bad I can’t have any because I’m breast feeding. Heh. Next year!!

4. One of my favorite old tv shows is Rainbow Brite. I loved watching that cartoon. I’m surprised it hasn’t joined the other old cartoons in making a resurgence back into popular media right now.

5. I’m done with the work week now. Woohoo here comes the weekend.

6. The most enjoyable thing around the holidays is being with the family. This year, it’s extra special because our beautiful Lily Bean is joining us for the first time. It’s her first Christmas ever.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to lounging, lounging, lounging, tomorrow my plans include doing some paperwork for work and having lunch with some of the in-laws and Sunday, I want to do some more lounging around!

1.) If you knew one of your close friends was cheating on their significant other, would you get involved? (EX: Tell their SO, try to talk to your friend about it, etc) Why or why not?
I think I would. I have. It’s my nature to get involved. I’m not entirely sure why. Probably because I can’t keep my business out of people’s business. Haha! But more likely it’s because I like knowing that my friends walk by the same moral compass as I do, and cheating on their spouse/lover without being honest about it or feeling remorse about it is about as lowly moral as one can get, in my opinion (outside of the whole murder/rape thing, of course). I can understand falling in love with another person, but you can’t lie to the person you’re already with and hide it. It’s so disrespectful to me. I can’t understand how someone would do something like that to another person and not find ways to redeem themselves by being honest or breaking up with one or the other, or even being honest with themselves.

2.) If your SO was cheating on you and one of your close friends knew, would you want them to tell you? Why or why not?
Yes. Definitely. I want to know. I would hate to live in denial.

3.) Have you ever stuffed your bra or underwear to make the size of your breasts or penis seem larger?
Er, no. I have worn padded bras when I was much younger and more self-conscious about myself, though. If that counts?

NO. A strong, resounding no. Outside of the whole “disrespect” factor, dude, I would just HATE to be “the other woman.”

No. What a weird fantasy to have. If one would have that fantasy, it’s about time one seriously think about breaking up. I rather be building steel buildings.

Anyway, here are some awesome answers to today’s Friday Fill-Ins:

 1. The last band I saw live was Audioslave, which was years ago. That was good. We took our nephew Nick with us, and it was a good time had by all.
2. What I look forward to most on Thanksgiving is seeing all of the family together in one room. We celebrate Thanksgiving Canadian-style — in October. I also look forward to playing with all the family’s babies and kids, and eating garlic bread. Maybe for next year during U.S. Thanksgiving (since we don’t celebrate it), we can look into one of those Disney vacations instead.
3. My Christmas/holiday shopping is really slow to get started this year. We’re stalling because we don’t have much money to spend this year.
4. Thoughts of financial stress fill my head.
5. I wish I could wear my pajamas everywhere I go. I’d be so comfortable! Back in college days, I used to just do that almost everyday — go to classes in my pajamas, especially when I was living on campus. It was more socially acceptable. Nowadays, I only do it once in a blue moon when I go pick something up at the corner store on a weekend or something. Sucks, dude. I wish it was more socially acceptable all around! But then again, I’ve never been one to follow social mores too well anyway.
6. Bagpipes are weird though oddly intriguing to me. I don’t understand how they work yet I am strangely attracted to anyone who knows how to play them. It’s quite the skill.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to doing paperwork for work — so fun, tomorrow my plans include possibly doing some grocery shopping, but probably not and Sunday, I want to stay home, rest up, do nothing. Maybe some laundry but that’s about it. Boy my weekends are boring! Ha!
